the FIX
06 / 12 / 07 :
Let it be known, that once one open his or her mouth the word that follows are all in the name of he or she. But this text'n is off the tip of my finger, the same finger that is use to hold the pen and pencil that write all those lyrics. A few week back I did an interview with V.O.A. the BBC and a couple other media outlets. I leak out a couple of unfinished song but feedback was more then overwhelming. It was like fuel to my already scorching flames. The people really connected with me and all that I have work for. Words for words they recited back. Once again, What I stood for was being back up by the same people I am representing; love, some thing money can't buy. Now on this day, June 11th 2007. I am writing my last song for the album. This song will hit home the most because I am dedicating this song to my parent. It will be in Khmer because they will have it no other way. I was told when I was younger that I can speak English when I am outside the house but inside I must speak Khmer. So in that tradition, it will carry on. THE FIX is on the way and things will fall into place. THX to all. This is not a multi-million dollar production but the message behind this is " By all Means ".
Finally, a release date ?
03 / 16 / 07 :
That will not be the case. the release date has been push back once more due to the minute production. Joining the project now is some very well known and respect artist/poet/singers and DJ's. we just confirm that Cambodian Master Poet U Sam Oeur will be feature on one of the song. Such an honor to work with. Here is a link to some of his work. http://www.coffeehousepress.org/sacredvowsreviews.asp . another singer just confirm is Sery Pov. very well known and respected in Washington state where she reside, but known through out the Cambodian community. She has perform at all type of event at all type of places. All confirm is Jane. What can I say. Jane is gifted in the art department. She will be working with me on the Album cover and the Booklet itself. we also got a DJ. yes., whats a rap album with out some scratching ? DJ Tai. well known and respect in California. I will list more names and give you more info as it come. due to this matter we have to treat this project with a little more respect and put more work and time into it. need not to worry that album will see that light of day.
Finally, a release date !
12 / 12 / 06 :
Man, the last couple of months has got me on the edge. i was this close from falling off track. yea, that close. ha... I finally rhap up the incredible film, ' Out of the Poison Tree 'a moving and powerful film. i was honored to be a part of. Beth, the Producer and Director of the film was kind enough to fly me out to the screening of the of film. since i did most of the music, and did the theme song to the film which will also be included in my upcoming album i had no choice but to perform for them live. it was perfect. couldn't ask for a better turn out. Congrat ! Beth. Lots of awards will be on it way, not just that but you gave us an much needed voice. i been, excuse me " WE " been working on the Bassac Project for quite some time now and kept it on a hush even tho the sponsor, sorry Charley and Alec haven't got a peek at it. they must hate me and my work ways. But i have gave it a release date. March 3rd 2007. we ran into a couple of fall back but a good reason tho. i turns out that a good friend of mine whom happen to by one of my producer is getting married. i can as a surprise but it was coming...so congrats. The BIGG questions that i have been getting and can never seem to escape is ; " when is DALAMA,.Memoirs coming out ? " Now i can give them a answer. April 17th 2007.
recordings, and Book title
9 / 05 / 06 :
the BAD ! for the last month or so I been playing catch up with all the projects. the Bassac project is still in its middle phases. we just edit some things but the music is coming along. the film itself might take a little long then we thought it would take. Due to the fact that there is so much going on right now. In Cambodia with the War Trial coming together. I wish I was there to see it. The computer problems continues. I'm thinking to myself if it still do the same problem with thin this 2 weeks, its gonna go right out the window. but then again all my record or most of it is in there. I tried coping data and transferring it but no such luck. Time is not on my side. Beth's Out of the Poison Tree film is now rhaping up and I need to finish up on my side of the deal. She has been an amazing person to work with. She even adopted my as her younger brother. ha....thanks Beth. The film is great> I just saw the rough cut and I was in awhhh..
the GOOD ! even tho the computer was down I was able to record some new songs. last week I went out to Seattle and did a show for the Cambodian Women Haritage. They was so friendly to me. I was truly effected by their work. They show me where their offices was and how they opperate. I meet the kids and even had a workshop with them. Things like that just give me hope. They are so talented...The girl who was ushering me around ( Ammara ) was just so down to earth. This girl need a raise. The show as crazy. It was held at the Seattle Center and had lot of turn out. Most importantly every one had fun. But back to the recording. I got two new song under my belt. But will not get into it just yet. My Nieces here are so cute and love-able but I had to put my foot down before they step all over me. they are so smart. They ask me questions out of the blues, I don't have the answer for. haa...know me i just make up some thing. ha..But one thing is tho they love their Aunt. I feel unlike some time when I call them and first person they ask for is my wife. but I'm happy. Its a good thing. They always tell me how their friends alway ask about me. My replies is to not talk about me and to focus on school. The middle one just turn 13 and had a party thrown at the house. it was a little of everything. fun, drama, fight, blood, beer, food, and of course a lot of love. Its Family after all. But again Back to the Recording.....I'm trying to finish a couple more song by the end of the month. and I just came up with the title for my untitled book. the title is...drum roll please.......( W.M.D. ) short for ( Words of Mass Distruction ) explain later. until then. peace.
sound'Bitting' the Poison Tree.
6 / 29 / 06 :
Me and Ryan Delancy is hard at work on " out of the poison tree " written and Directed, Beth (Basa) Pielert.
http://www.goodfilmworks.com/
but on that note i went on a road trip with wifey to Florida where we will be staying for the time being until next year or maybe later. But while traveling the computer that has the sound bites in bump against the car seat once to many time causing it to not work right. Come to find out that the hard drive is broken. While I'm getting that restore the always reliable R. Delancey is working on the other parts. The whole thing 'bite' but, in the word of the late great Bob Marley ; " no women, no cry,...everything is going be alrigh.." One thing I hate to not step up to my words. I gave the people at OTPT my words, time, and date that it will be done and it seem i am a little behind. Until I get I my comp back, I will have to work over, over, over time. no sleep until the sheep fall first.
album / location
6 / 6 / 06 :
the album was set to release on this devil day, but unfortunetly it did happen. sort of like the prediction of many, it did not happen. I can explain. the album is still in the work but just to let every one know that, that is not the only project that I am working on. It is tho my top project. But since I went to Cambodia and met with all the masters and their students the direction of the album sorta shifted. At first I wanted the album to have only my voice so that I am the only person held accounted for. But as it went along thing just didn't happen the way I planned. Now I Have Master Kong Nai, Master Ho Chan, Sinat, Sovey, Sopeap, Boran, "the Kids", Silong, R. Delancey, Universal Speakers, and some of my family avoid. so yea it chances a bit. But it will not be a featuring album like most of the rap album out there. What these people are doing is giving more then just a song, they put their soul in it. Just as 666 the prediction of the devil rising, he nor what ever it is will not get it there way because we are going to do this and get it done right. No date just yet. But trust me once it come you will here about it. Much love and respect to all those who been supporting not just me or us but the cause.
the aftermath ...
5 / 25 / 06 :

2 / 28 / 06 :
the breakdown.
where can i, or should i start.
well let start with Cambodia.
as you can see from our event and tour section/page we i am headed to Cambodia March 15th through April 6th . the reason is...life and money. the breakdown; LIFE : the people of Tonle Bassac is in danger of loosing their homes to a company that is taking over the land to, drum roll please...built a shopping center! you are talking about hundreds of family here. some may say Tonle Bassac is a slum village any ways, so why shouldn't they clean it up and rebuild it. good point. but know this. the family who live there now, have lived there since the end of the war. another word the killing fields. yes it is a poor community but it don't give them the right to come a scare people out of there home. my last visit there i over heard a few family saying they where given a offer of a little sum of money for their property. they said no, then the mens said they should take it because in case of a fire "arson" the family will get nothing at all. THE MONEY : what more can i say. BIGG corperation will go onn with their agenda with or with-out the people approval. because BIGG money is involve. MY REASON : my reason of being there is not to play politic. i purpose there is to document the people/master of art and music that are currently living there. a master by the name of Kong Nai who play the bonjo " ga-peay dong waine " is a living treasure. i want to capture him in his element. i will document a day in his life. form the time he wake up to the time he lay his head and sleep. that if he could cus of all that is going. and did i mention he is blind. he is our Ray Charles. say that this generation is blinded by karaoke music and translation of others. I will also document the kids of Tonle Bassac. the kids there are very inspiring to me. they dance, sing, play instruments. trying their hardiest to keep the culture alive. they is even a school there where they meet up every day to practice. they do it with grace, beauty and pride. they make an honest living out of it to. they don't beg nor ask for money. but its sad to say that these kids who is growing up together and been bonding all these years will be seperated and scattered all over the city. like i said i will document their life and also we will head in to a recording studio to record their favorite songs. the other person i like to mention is Sinat. he is a very quite but talent kid who i met last year. we quickly became good friend. he play the "sadewe"a one string guitar. i will do the same for him as well.my goal is to make a DVD/CD out of this project. i like to thank Charley and Alec for the funds to make the project happen. my friend/producer Silong will come along and also Thy Pech our partner in the a film company we form call the A.V.E. will also come to make sure all the paper work are do right. we will travel around Cambodia, from Siem Reap to Phnom Pehn to Batdombong and back again. it is NOT a vacation by any means. this project will be out some thing in 2007. be on the look out for that.
While i am in Cambodia i will try to rhap up my album ( DALAMA...memoirs of the invisible war." ) its gonna be simply put...amazing.
CAMBODIAN NEW YEAR April 15th 2006 El Darado Park Long Beach CA : is only one week apoun my arrvail and i already have April book to the last air breatheable. i will only have a couple day to recoupe then its off with the shows, roads, and etc...again.
2nd Anual CAMBODIAN NEW YEAR PARADE April 16th 2006 Long Beach Ca :
i am proud and honered to say that this year 2006, the second anual Cambodian New Year Parade. i have been selected to be Grand Marsall. i dont know how the Parade Committee came up with that. there are so many other great leaders but i have been selected as Grand Marshall for Young Leaders. i am just out of word on that this one...just honored.
Happy New Year !
1 / 3 / 06 :
Happy New Year to all !
Its been a while since my last entry log but I just been caught up with all the last minute stuff.
X-mas or now an day people are debating on what to call it. X-mas or Holidays. I say as long as you get in the spirt it all works. But it was great for all of us. Me and the Famaily that is. I am very thankful for a great and understanding Family. coming from what I do for a living. and I hope your was the same.
We ring in the New Year at our friends house that they desurving just got. House in the hills. Who said you can't make it out the hood ? They are living testiment of that. Some of my other friends made it to as well. Move away for a better living. Its derstandable. But I'm still here. Smack right in the middle of LOng Beach. Only time will tell.
This Year 2006 its gonna be crazy. I'm gonna give it all my best. Projests is now due, and promoting it is gonna be...like I said CRAZY. While poeple invest money in things, I invest my money in people. Like the 2nd Language. They are one tight group and good people/friends. Happy and proud to have known them. One of the member name Silong has become one of my good friend. He is very talented in what he do. He produce and made the beats for all of the songs on the 2nd Language album. except for one. Thats saying a lot. That the reason I hand pick him to go with me to Cambodia to work on "the Master Project " and if he can't go. I won't go. yea its like that. The other investment is Vice Vesrsa, before known as Universal Speaker. They are fun to have around and multi-talented. They can co it all sing, rap, write their own songs and make their won beats. They even record everything them self. All I do is the clean up. They are good friends and been with me since day 2. I'm going on my 5th if your wondering. Tuong D. man hes been with me since day "one" he the president of our record company and will be for a long time. He single handy help produce almost all of the album that come out of Mujestic Records. Not only that, He one of my best friend. Speaking of friends, to many to name and don't won' t get into it . If i miss or leave out people name they will get violent on me. ha.... But its a new year and that comes ne things right? well sort of. This year is catching up on last year project. The one we work so hard on. and this year all eyes is gonna be on me once more. Once DALAMA..." Memeoirs of the Invisible War. " comes out. Its going to raise alot of eyebrows and people is goning to talk. its not the attention I'm looking for. " its justice and balance" This is the final Dalama so I myself is looking forward to hearing the final product. it is what it is. Hate it or Love it, its a peice of my time and mind. till the next. good luck on keeping your New Year Resolution in taCk. as for me its all about Famliy and Friends. and being a person.
recording DALAMA
10 / 18 / 05 :
man it was a crazy month ! i went up to Washington DC to to a benitfit show for SEARAC.
they were celebrating there 30 years anniversity of the org. and then right after that i had a interview with VOA.
voices of america, they can and pick me up to their headquater once more. it was my 5 time interviewing with them.
a couple week proir i had did a tv interivew with them. giving them updates on what i been doing and the how the city i'm living in, which is Long Beach the ones and twos.
then i return home. right after that, not even a week pass i was off to Portland to record with Silong. BUT before i got there i had to make a stop at Richmond.
i did a show for the kids there. they put together a " stop the violents " summit to rase awareness on what is going on in their city. i got a chance to talk with the mayor of Richmond.
the summit was a success. then right after the show i had to go to the airport. i mean right after the show ! meaning i had to stop and rush to the airport or else i would miss my plane.
i made it on time. them if was off to Portland. Silong pick me up and off to the hideout to record the first half of my DALAMA album. in two days we recorded 6 songs. but we haven't mix it down yet.
in the mist of all this we drove up to Tocoma Washington. his dad want to met me and discuss a project that they been working on for the last 5 years. he wanted me to be a part of it.
i was honored. all i can say about the project is Sin Sisamuth. WOW ! we return the same night. 3 1/2 hour drive. got home at about 5 in the morning. we took a break and just chill out.
we recorded again the following week and finish a couple more songs. then it was off to Tocoma again. this time is to update on the project and the 2nd Language was to perform at one of the nite club. i was to do a song or two. at the end of it all we stay the night. slep at 5am and woke up at 6am in the morning. yes one hour sleep. then off we go...back to Portland.
it was my last two days in Portland. i met up with some of my best friend their. Sophorn, Chhay, Chin, Khana...and the others.
the last day i had a fundraising at one of the Cambodian org. there. all the money would go to the people in Cambodia. we met up with Arn Chon Pond, Boviha Wagner, and many others. the fundraising was a sucess. i perform in front of 200 people. it was a $25. a person type of event so i had to jusp in a suit. ha.
but they love it. and all was caught on tape. we mingle a bit then it was off to Sophorn house. by the time we arrive every one was half way or drunk already.
this was the last night tht i was gonna be there. SO of course we stay up all nith. i past out around 5am and then Sophron woke me up at 6:30am to head out to the airport. i hated that feeling.... but had to wake up. i arive right on time to catch my flight. 2 and a half hour later...
there she was. my best friend and wife there to pick me up. i was all smiles from there on.
but may i add, about the recordings....i can not get into detail but we are very proud of the outcome.
rhap up
08 / 15 / 05 :
we just rhap up filming. thats good news right. wrong. now the hard part, editing it. but thats more of Mike job.
I just gave him some imput. but i wanted to let Mike do his thing, since after all it is he who make film. I make music. ha.
but now I need to give him all the sound bites and most of the archive i have. newspaper, magizines, film footage, and what ever not.
0- he said not to spoil anything about the film. and i won't but, one thing is I think we're gonna change the title of the film.
At this stage I am plannig a 2nd trip to Cambodia to work with the Cambodian Living Art masters. sometime next year, can not mention date yet on that.
And about the book. its coming along. i just finish writing/type about 30 or so pages of ....
But any how we are having an ebay account where are supporters can bid on our one of a kind idems.
untill the next my friend..peace out.
the Documentry, and the Album and yes the Book.
06 / 07 / 05 :
just spoke to Mike Siv, the big shot director from the San Fran and he want to rhap things up by the end of this year.
we just need a few more shots and all is in the can. he ask for some old photos but i don't have any. as a young'n i rarely take pictures. but by the way it looks it'll be a tower'n achivement.
i show alot of me that other don't realy show. from the house to the stage and store to sell the cds.
and on the documetry tip, Hide's NHK documentry about me on my first trip to Camboida just aired in Japan.
I myself haven't seen it yet but i know it'll be dark. the theme is to kinda blend inn with my album "memoirs" .
the first one we did together won "best work" documetry for 2004. so yea, i'm in good hands. i'll tell you more once i get the film.
O- and good new! i've just finish the song "out of the poison tree" for the film by the same title.
the director "Beth" show me a bit of the film and i was inspired.
she try'n to get it ready for the Sundance Film Fest. by the way it look it should win arards. yea its that good.
i'm just proud to be a part of it.
and yes the Album....the Ablum is coming along just fine. just finish up the song "Clear and Present Danger / silentcry " i must admit its one of my hardest lyric i've written.
just because it deals with what go'n on NOW in Cambodia and i just bluntly say what on my mind. other wise i still have a lot more recording to do.
i want the album to be "simple but yet complex" your'll see or i mean hear what i'm talk'n about once it surface.
O- one last thing, just to to Frank of Monoa about the book and yes!!! its now rolling along.
Cambodian New Year, Parade, and APRIL 17th.
04 / 26 / 05 :
I never been so proud !
this year New Year celebration went off with a bang. People came from all around the world. and of course we was there to represent.
we share booth with Cinguar phone. while we sell and give away books and cds they hook others with phone. thanks for the sponsorship.
at about 1:30 we hit the stage and of corse the staff and crew was there as well.
ViceVerse and Universal open up the show and I took it on from there. the croud roar with lafter and happiness. i can see the joy in each one of their faces, young and old.
I did one new song but then kept it old skool. i wasn't really to do the new ones because i didn't have the cd to promote yet. next year or the next time around. but either or the croud still love the show.
the park reach it peak at 3 or so where very where you look you was surrounded by people. at lease 15,000 to 17,000 or so. the food booth has a line like it was giving away free food. all and all it went smoothly.
there was no highlite because there was so many to highlite. every little thing shine on it own.
we pack up and went home a about 5:00.
THE NEXT DAY. ( Apirl 17th )
the darkest day for Cambodians. if you don't know by now. April 17th is the day that the Khmer Rouge took over Cambodia or another word ' the beginnin of the Killing Fields. where more then about 2 millions was murdered.
this year marking the 30 year anniversity it was more then just a year. the power in numbers and plus i visited Cambodia for the first time this year so i felt more connected then eva.
in the morining i went to a couple of Wat/Temple to pay my respect and morn. and by 3:oo on the dot i, for the first time ever "shave my head."
later on that night we celebrated " Sery Liak" one year birthday. happy birthday baby. every one came over.
its a day of death, so the only way to respect that is to celebrate life.
April 24.th
on the night of the 23rd it was pouring rain. i was up at night praying to Buddha for the rain to stop. for this is the first ever Cambodian New Year Parade.
I said that "if you can hear me please, please, please, give us this one day of sun".
the next morning. the Parade was to jump off at 11am. it is now 10am and the rain was raining like it was about to flood. i burn more incent and pray some more. then around 10:45, behold the first peak of the sun. it was as if " the higher power " heard me.
thousands and thousands showed up, lining along the streets. this is a great turn out for our first ever Parade.
when the Parade started the sun was shining like a smile from Buddha himself. It couldn't have been better. It went off with out a hitch. every where you look every one had a smile on.
like i said " I never been so proud."
1 Book, 2 Album, 3 Documentry.
03 / 17 / 05 :
Good news! the re-mastering of " the lost chapter" is final on it way. Silong will have a hands on in this project.
About me NEW album, well what can I say. its coming together like a puzzle.
No date set yet, but to whom who reads this trust me its worth the wait! I been hard at work.
Behind the pen, the mic, and the phone 'harrasking' the producer to come with new insturmentals.
Yes, I'm talk'n about Ryan, Silong, ViceVerse, and others including myslef.
I'm half way done with "the lost chapter" I'm think'n about either putting two new song or just leave it as is.
About "MEMOIRS" lets just say "nine". Nine songs. thats all I have for now. At this point I'm half way threw that to.
ha. To many Things to do. April 9th . the release of "In the Shadow of Angkor" book. thanks to the people at MANOA at University of Hawaii for putting out such a great book.
April 16th, the Cambodian New Year Celebration at El Darado Park area 3 and of corse the Contraversal April 17th New Years Parade. 0- Did I mention three Documentry is in the work.
one is a follow up to NHK. This one about my 1st Home reUnion to Cambodia, and the other is with the straight talk'n and talented director Mike Siv. the third one is Beth's healing seed " Out of the Poison Tree ".
Can I take the presure? Bring it on.

praCh return to birth place : C A M B O D I A
01 / 07 / 05 :
Thank you for sending e-mail and talking to me on the phone about covering
your tour for NHK(Japan Broadcasting Corporation). I have discussed this
matter with my producer Mr. Jiro Shima of NHK Enterprises of America, Inc.
in New York( subsidiary of NHK, that I am directly working with) , and got
the following answer:
1) Copyright:
As a freelance director, I am hired by NHK Enterprises of America, Inc. to
direct this documentary program. And NHK owns the copyright, not me.
So, I can't go out and sell this program anywhere.
2) Market:
NHK has no intention to show/air this program outside of Japan.
3) Theme & Approach of the program(50 min.):
The theme of the program is to visualize Cambodia as it is NOW through
Prach's point of view. (Prach is the Cambodian American Rapper from Long
Beach). Prach is our main character who is going back to Cambodia for the
first time since he left when he was four years old.
Prach will spend the first two weeks as a delegation of Cambodian Living
Arts, then one more week by himself(visiting the village he was born, etc.).
So, the first two weeks, we will basically follow the tour. However, though
I totally admire the significance of the Cambodian Living Arts project, this
tour is ( for our documentary) means/entrance to bring Prach into the
different aspect of Cambodia; history, tradition, atrocity, current urban
issue such as poverty, street children, etc. So, once Prach(we) faces these
aspects, we(camera) will go deeper into the subject. How will this
American-grown artist (Prach) see, feel and react towards these subjects?
We will also have Prach meet with young Cambodian people and discuss about
what they are thinking about their country NOW. We are also working on the
possibility of making his performance happen among young people, since we
are very much interested in interaction of people ( especially young ) and
Prach.
praCh's Documentry on Japan NHK TV
11 / 06 / 04 :
Hi Prach,
I came back from NY on Sunday just to be in time for Halloween with kids.
We had an in-house screening of the program on Friday, and I got very good feed back from everybody
who watched the show. They were really impressed by your song and performance.
Thank you so much for all your generous understanding and cooperation for our production.
The program will air on November 6 (Sat) 21:40 - 22:00 on NHK BS1 (Satellite Channel 1)
all through Japan. NHK Enterprises America, Inc. in New York (where I was editing ) will send you
three VHS copies of the program after it is aired ( to the address you have given to me).
Though we are not supposed to give out the copy before air-date, I have one for you with me now.
I also want to return photos of your brother.
Do you have time tomorrow? Please let me know.
I also want to talk about going to Cambodia.
I went to see the live theater "Eye of the Heart" on Saturday. It was the very last performance.
Though the producer was out of the country, I enjoyed the show.

Hello Prach,
it was great to connect with you on the
phone today. I am really excited by all the
creative-independent work that you have dedicated
yourself to. I hope that you will be a part of OUT OF
THE POISON TREE.
The title of the film comes from a metaphor. The sleng
makes reference to Toul Sleng, meaning hillock of the
poison tree. As you know, Toul Sleng was a former
primary school in Phnom Penh that was used as a
torture and execution facility during the KR regime.
The sleng is fruit that is indigenous to Cambodia. It
looks like an orange but is so poisonous it can be
fatal if ingested. Ironically, when dried, the sleng
tranforms into a medicine to treat symptoms of dengue
fever and malaria.
OUT OF THE POISON TREE refers to people who have
survived a poisonous time in Cambodia. Their stories
and life's work make a medicine that heals both
themselves and their country.
OUT OF THE POISON TREE profiles three generations of
survivors of the Killing Fields who are using media,
Buddhism, Apsara dance, rap music and poetry to create
their own personal justice and reconciliation.
I am most interested in youth like yourself , who are
using their music to process and educate.
Specifically I want to explore your Cambodian-American
perspective on your past and how your work has
resonated with Cambodians in Phnom Penh and in Long
Beach today.
I had mentioned on the phone that we are seeking a
musician to compose and perform a song that
illustrates the film's title OUT OF THE POISON TREE
and how it is a metaphor of healing.
I have enclosed a short list of the talent (aka crew)
on the project. I can't wait to hear your thoughts and
listen to your music.
Best regards,
Beth Pielert, Producer / Director OUT OF THE POISON

praCh - great to hear from you so quickly!
I just checked your updates out - sounds like your doing some great projects. It's an excellent site - that's where I found the info about Tiara, so thank you!!
You probably recall that performed a couple of pieces at lunch hour during our 2001 conference that the students (Latin Froz & 2 poets were also there - the students loved it!! ... At this event, I'm asking if you'd be willing co-present 2 workshops with Tiara, one at 9:30 and the other at 10:40 at Cal State Fullerton Titan Student Union, Friday, Nov 19.
Now, I don't know how you feel about this, but I think it would be really powerful to have you open the conference with a couple of pieces - like perhaps welCome and I Just Want You to Understand?? This would be at about 9am.
So, let me know what you think, praCh and what you feel comfortable doing... again, thank you so much!
Here's the info on the youth conference, Walk In My Shoes:
A goal of OC Human Relations is to empower students to make a difference in their worlds - to make their schools and communities safer and more inclusive - political action is one tool that we encourage. One of our activities to further that goal is the Walk In My Shoes symposium on intercultural cooperation -

The day's activities will include student-led panels and workshops, skill-building workshops, motivational speakers, theatrical performances, exercises that build interethnic understanding, panels of experts sharing their insights and experience etc.
Goal:
Walk In My Shoes tries to encourage schools to work collaboratively towards creating and sustaining a safe, inclusive school climate that is respectful of society's diversity.
Objectives:
Develop an awareness among students that will help them cope with the challenges of the emerging diversity at their schools.
Promote intergroup understanding and tolerance by providing a forum for discussion about issues of diversity.
Promote diversity and ease inter-ethnic tension by learning about conflict resolution and other human relations skills.
Reassess behaviors and attitudes towards others who are perceived to be different.
Lift the spirits of students who are involved in intergroup relations work.
Empower students to make a difference in their schools, communities, country and the world.
The High School event is Friday, November 19 at Cal State Fullerton. The day begins at 8:30 and we have 60 minute workshop slots at 9:30, 10:40 and 12:30.

Hi praCh,
Just wanted to let you know that the date for the program is Thursday, Nov 4 from 12:30 to 2:30 at the Grand Salon, University Student Union. We will be serving a light lunch for the artists and sponsors from 11 to 12 at the Balboa room, USU.
I will be sending out a confirmation letter and parking pass. Please send me a short bio. I'm thinking that we will perhaps be having each artist perform 2 pieces. If so, would you please send me the words to the 2 pieces you choose?
Thanks.
Looking forward to meeting you!

9 / 26 / 04 : The tour sounds exciting! Please let me know if you want to stop by UC Berkeley on your tour. If you can give me an advanced notice of at least a month, I can try to book a lecture room, as well as a movie projector, at Berkeley (sitting around 700 people) for the arranged night (the rooms tend to be popular so that is why I would need the advanced notice). Also, the notice would enable us to help publicize the event such as through flyering. Lastly, can you tell me about the tour; it sounds very interesting!
Sincerely, Sokunthea Chhun Berkeley Cambodian Student Association (BCSA) President

Hi PraCh,
I've talked the organizer, Ben Caldwell, of Project Blowed, the Hip-Hop project where they rap every Thursday night(10PM - 2AM).
This is the place Mike Soken mentioned as the best but might be tough to get into.
However, after I explained about you, Ben said OK.
It's in Crenshaw area. Approx.20 performers will try a night. If you're not good enough and can't grab audience, next performer will
come up and you have to hand your microphone to him. This place has been the Mecca of aspiring rapper to challenge since 1994.

According to Ben, number of audience will be 70 ~ 200(mixture of black, Latino, white and Asian)
I'll meet Ben tomorrow afternoon to discuss about details and other staff ( Ben is also a film director).
After I've got OK sign from Ben, I called Mike again. Then, Mike said, "It is a great opportunity, go for it."

"Can you be famous but unknown? Can you unwittingly electrify the youth of a homeland you left as a toddler? Can lyrics written in California bring a new generation to face Cambodia's greatest modern horror? This is the miraculous story of how a refugee named praCh accomplished all that, to his own astonishment."
* Gina Chon---CAMBODIAN DAILY
" praCh's incendiary tales of Cambodia's past, told in the defiant tones of rap, hit Phnom Penh like a B-52 bombing raid."
* Adam Piore---NEWSWEEK-THE INTERNATIONAL NEWSMAGAZINE

NEW YORK POST-newspapers
" Long Beach rapper praCh could pass for a wise teen-ager with understanding parents. But when he opens his mouth to rhyme, or when you listen to the fiery rap CD, praCh an actor's son who is 22, sounds like he's 22 going on 50."
* Theo Douglas---L.B.PRESS-TELEGRAM-newspapers
" praCh has begun teaching local youths what parents and school have not... Shattering the stereotype of a rapper praCh is polite and earnest."
* Wendy Thomas Russell---L.B.PRESS-TELEGRAM-newspapers
" The album has caught on among the trendy urban youth of the capital, who often have access to MTV and English-language lessons."
ABCNews---news channels
" At parties, in bars and in homes around Phnom Penh, the album has teen-agers buzzing about songs on death, forced labor and broken families."
CBSNews---news channels
" He said he never envisioned the music having an impact in Cambodia. "I was very surprised at how big this got. When I did it, it was just a demo, to pass around to a few friends," praCh said in a phone interview from Long Beach."
NBCNews---news channels
" He brings it to the new generation, and talk about reality, talk about society."
FOXNews---news channels

* Sheraz Sadiq---P.B.S. 'Frontline' - television
" He's awfully precise, this praCh...Dalama raised, in one way or another, got Cambodia's moldering history books-victims of a bury-the-past mindset-back in the schools."
* Rich Kane---O.C.WEEKLY-newspapers
"He's a genius. To use his rap lyrics to tell the stories of the immigrants... I don't know of anyone else who's doing what he's doing,'
* Frank Stewart---MANOA -University of Hawaii Press
"praCh Ly is Long Beach's next Legend. The Cambodian rapper is a leader and a visionary. By producing a bilingual album pack with meaning and history. He electrified his homeland with lyrics that relentless yet thoughtful.which reminds me of why hip-hop was great in the first place."
* Mike Sonksen---562 magazine " Khmer rap from California wakes up stifled generation in Cambodia. Some people hope that praCh's music will kick-start the creativity of a numb nation."

* Vibol Hul---KHMERCONNECTION.COM
" I have to admit? the brother has mad skills. From putting lead to paper and drawing out sketches to spitting out lyrics. Prach has an eye for detail and perfection. There is method to his madness...I think this album: ( Dalama " the lost chapter.") is a testament to the evolution of the individual whose heart beats in time with music and whose flow is a fusion of experience and narrative genius."

praCh is a bi-lingual Khmer-American rapper.
He's smart, raw, talented, inspired,
and so so cool."
"I saw him performed two years ago in DC
and he blew me away! I don't normally
listen to rap, but this man had me
off my seat, bopping my head up and down,
laughing, and eyes glued on him.
When I turned to my neighbors,
I saw elder Khmer men and women doing
the same. praCh is a treasure to our community."
* Loung Ung: Activist, Author, Lecturer---.
"praCh Ly is the most authoritative voice
in Khmai and Khmai-American rap.
( Dalama..."memoirs of the invisible war." )
not only shows his music taking on new
beats and new sounds from traditional
and other sources. The lyrics focus
have a new focus on all of the Cambodian
tragedy from 1970 to the present.
Aware, furious, respectful,
precise --- this is political writing at its finest.
Like Nelson Mandela had rapped when he was young.
* Geoff Ryman: Author---.
"its funny the way things turn out,
but one thing i do know is that..
the world is your stage baby;
and your the star. keep at it becuz
i know one day, you'll be on that
well deserved throne, sitting on
top of the world. happy early 22nd." =)
